BANDON, Ore. –
The Big Apple is tops when it comes to used-car sales by independent dealers and between private parties, but the crown for most used sales by franchised dealers is actually claimed by the nation’s second-largest city, according to CNW Research.
Los Angeles was No. 1 on CNW’s list of top 10 DMAs for used units sold by franchised dealers in 2012, followed by New York in second and the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, Calif. market in third.
New York topped the lists for both independent dealer and private-party used-car sales, while LA was No. 2 on each of those lists.
Interestingly enough, the Seattle-Tacoma, Wash. DMA was fourth for private-party sales, but didn’t make either of the dealer top 10 lists.
All told, when franchised, independent and private-party sales are combined, the overall leader was New York, followed by LA and Chicago, respectively.
