CARMEL, Ind. — Late last week, J.D. Byrider announced it has hired a new executive to serve as vice president of franchise operations.

Hired for this position is Thomas Welter, who will be responsible for "maximizing unit profitability by strengthening the company's franchise support system and mentoring and developing the company's franchise consultants."

Explaining the decision, Steve Wedding, president of Byrider Franchising, said, "As we expand our franchise operations, Tom will play an integral role. Tom brings operational experience with four large national companies during his 20-year career."

Before joining Byrider, Welter served as senior vice president of national operations for 24 Hour Fitness, where he led a 375-unit, $1.2 billion operation, officials noted.

Prior to going to 24 Hour Fitness, Welter served as vice president of business logistics for KB Home, where he was responsible for market strategy, land acquisition review, pricing strategy origination and review, in addition to product offerings and margin improvement.

Welter also spent time serving as a regional coach for PepsiCo/Yum Brands, one of the largest fast-foot operators in the world. Working for this company, he was responsible for 170 stores and 235 franchise stores, with regional sales exceeding $575 million.

He also spent some time working in management with Avis Rent A Car Systems in Miami, Tallahassee, Houston and San Francisco.

"I'm pleased to help move J.D. Byrider to the next level," Welter noted. "The company's growth goals are impressive and I look forward to developing our team."
