LITTLETON, Colo. — PassTime announced recently that it has become the first in the buy-here, pay-here vehicle telematics industry to utilize an embedded subscriber identity module (SIM) in its flagship solution application.

Executives said the PassTime Elite Product Line will soon be manufactured with the new embedded SIM from T-Mobile USA. They indicated T-Mobile and PassTime began their partnership four years ago with goal of building unique solutions for the automotive aftermarket.

PassTime stated the product line with this embedded SIM is set to be manufactured during the fourth quarter with its availability to customers coming early next year.

The company reiterated that its compact devices are meant for GPS tracking and data communications between a vehicle and a lender and/or dealer. PassTime contends its device can decrease the risk of loan default and loss of property by providing timed payment alerts and starter interrupt services.

The device integrates with radio module partner Cinterion Wireless Modules and utilizes T-Mobile USA's nationwide GSM network.

Now with T-Mobile's embedded SIM solution, PassTime explained the device is smaller and can withstand harsh environmental conditions. The company indicated the new chip is roughly one-third the size of a dime and more tolerant to extreme conditions like temperature, humidity and vibration.

"Because of the strong partnership between PassTime and T-Mobile USA over the past four years, we have the ability to provide this enhancement of the Elite Product Line to our customers, at no additional charge," explained Frank Jacobsen, president and chief operating officer of PassTime.

"T-Mobile is the first carrier to deploy the embedded SIM, which gives us the ability to provide our customers a product that is more reliable over longer periods of time and allow PassTime Elite to be used in situations not available to us in the past," Jacobsen added.
