Demand by BHPH Stores Pushes Dealer Tac Growth Plans
LAS VEGAS — Dealer Tac, a comprehensive nationwide network
database aimed at improving repossession and recovery efforts for buy-here,
pay-here dealerships, is looking to expand to meet growing demand.
With more than 6,000 BHPH stores already in its system,
Dealer Tac now is preparing to branch out beyond the United States and
incorporate Canadian operations into its system.
Dealer Tac founder David Bounsall recapped how the system is
intended to function as a way for other BHPH dealers to share vital information
with other stores to report unpaid loans, start the repossession process and
find missing persons and vehicles.
Dealers can begin the process by entering a customer's
Social Security Number into the database. If they're in the system, a window is
designed to pop up showing the last known address, phone number and other
contact information.
Then, users can enter the status of that customer, choosing
among options such as paid in full open, can't locate skip, repossessed, or surrendered
before repo.
As a result of entering or viewing this information, fellow
BHPH stores in the network can add notes as well, material that's approved by Dealer
Tac.
"We make sure that the information is a matter of fact and
anything slanderous or malicious will not be approved or submitted," Bounsall
said.
Bounsall emphasized the larger the network becomes, the more
valuable information Dealer Tac can share with other BHPH stores, a situation
he described as a "win-win."
Already owning three BHPH lots, Bounsall decided to create
Dealer Tac last July.
"We wanted a more secure and comfortable way when dealing
with potential clients," Bounsall said. "This gives us the ability to see if a
potential client has paid off a car, had a repo, or skipped from a BHPH
lot."
Bounsall pointed out that credit reports sometimes do not
have all the information necessary for proper underwriting when it comes to
in-house financing. Furthermore, he mentioned customers sometimes are disabling
GPS devices, making repossession and recovery more difficult.
"Dealer Tac is the first and last line of defense you will
need in the buy-here pay-here business. We are unique in that sense," Bounsall
said. "It works and it's very simple. Once signed up, you receive your log-in
information. Only other members can have access to the secured information.
Dealer Tac is on a secure server just as secure as Equifax. Once inside the
membership area you can access and look-up a potential client.
"The integrity of the information comes directly from other
buy-here, pay-here dealers. You trust those who are in the same business as
you," he went on to say.
"It's really up to the owners to decide what tools to
protect their investments," Bounsall added.
