Car segment price declines steeper than trucks for first time since March
It was another week of price declines in the Canadian wholesale vehicle market, but with a twist.
The week ending Friday marked the first time since mid-March that the decline in car segments was steeper than the drop in truck segments, according to the latest Market Insights report from Canadian Black Book.
The overall weekly movement in used-car prices was a dip of 0.23%, CBB said in its report. That compares to a 0.22% decline the prior week and a 0.10% average decline for the same week of 2017-2019.
Car segments dropped 0.25%, compared to a 0.20% dip the prior week and a 0.12% drop for the 2017-2019 time frame.
Truck segment prices were off 0.20%, versus a 0.24% decline the week before. The 2017-2019 average change was a dip of 0.08%.
“The Canadian wholesale market decreased further this week. The decrease seen this week were slightly more than the previous week, mostly due to a large drop in the car segments,” CBB said in the report. “Supply remains low with extremely high demand on both sides of the border.
“Upstream channels continue to tap supply before it can be available to wholesale markets.”
