The new AutoTrader Awards results are out, highlighting the best vehicles in Canada, according to some of the country’s top auto experts.

The awards are based on 2023 Ipsos research.

AutoTrader said the categories this season reflect how Canadians shop for cars. New categories include best hybrid and best plug-in hybrid.

“AutoTrader is Canada’s leading and most trusted automotive marketplace, and we’re dedicated to empowering Canadians during their car-buying journey,” said Jodi Lai, AutoTrader’s editor-in-chief, in a press release. “As part of this, we are also committed to being a trustworthy source of expert car advice, and the AutoTrader Awards are the ultimate expression of this.”

Best small car went to the Honda Civic, and the Honda Accord came in as best family sedan.

The new category winners were as follows:

  • The Toyota Prius won for best hybrid.
  • The Toyota Prius Prime won for best plug-in hybrid

The best mainstream electric vehicle went to the Kia Niro EV, and the best premium EV award went to the Hyundai ioniq 6.

Not surprisingly, the Jeep Wrangler is tops in the best vehicle for adventure category.

Covering some of the top truck and SUV models, the best full-size truck goes to the Ford F-150, while the best compact/mid-size truck goes to the Ford Maverick.

For compact SUVs, the Subaru Outback was tops, white for full-size SUVs, the Chevrolet Suburban came out on top.

For luxury shoppers, the best compact car is the BMW 3 Series, while the best large luxury car award goes to the Porsche Taycan. The top luxury mid-size SUV is the Porsche Cayenne.

The jury included more than 20 auto journalists from across Canada, and they were asked to choose vehicles they would feel confident recommending to their own family and friends. A dozen criteria are taken into account, including value, innovation, safety, driver satisfaction, overall excellence, and more.

“With so many good options, picking the right car can be a daunting task, so these awards are a way for Canadian drivers to gain insight into what the experts recommend and what separates a ‘good car’ from an ‘award-winning car,'” Lai said. “The AutoTrader Awards are a great jumping off point for researching your next vehicle purchase.”

To be announced later are five overall grand prix winners of the 2024 AutoTrader Awards on Feb. 15, as well as Canada’s most trusted car brand.
