HGreg’s AI April Fool’s prank lets customers design their dream car
Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence these days – which, to the fun-loving minds at HGreg, made it ripe for an April Fool’s gag.
The dealership group’s latest in a long line of April 1 initiatives offered the chance to use an AI-driven service to design a car online, which would then built and delivered in just seven days.
HGreg’s social media campaign invited customers to visit its website to create and order the made-to-order car of their dreams. Using AI and a few questions, the system quickly generates a rendition of the customer’s perfect car, which is then presented for purchase – along with a note letting them in on the prank.
“We’ve been investing in the customer experience across our dealerships for more than 30 years,” HGreg chief marketing officer Harry Kasparian said in a news release. “So you can be sure our team is experimenting with AI to take it to the next level. While this year’s AI-inspired April Fool’s initiative remained humorous and lighthearted as in years past, AI-driven innovation is right up ahead for us and our industry.”
More than 10,000 cars were generated on the platform, which is still up and running at www.hgregoire.com/dream-car.
HGregoire recorded a 300% increase in website traffic on April 1. The campaign, which included the participation of various influencers, was viewed by more than 1.5 million people on HGreg’s social media platforms.
