Mercedes-Benz Financial Services USA wants to be involved in more than just vehicle leases and retail installment sales contracts.

The captive now offers Mercedes Pay, which is designed to turn the vehicle into a payment device.

The newly released in-car feature, available on any Mercedes-Benz vehicle in the U.S. with the MBUX infotainment system and on-board navigation installed, can allow drivers to identify available off-street parking facilities and reserve a parking space via the infotainment system. The system can enable motorists to select check-in and check-out times, and view the total cost and confirm their booking, at which point drivers will be sent a QR code to scan when arriving at the car park to gain entry.

Payment processing is then enabled automatically by Mercedes Pay. Parkopedia, one of the leading parking service providers in the US, provides the location and parking facility data that helps enable this feature.

With this Mercedes-Benz exclusive feature, drivers will end the hunt for parking meters, loose change, or the right smartphone app – Mercedes pay just made paying for off-street parking much more convenient. Drivers will be able to start, stop, and then securely pay for their off-street parking using the in-car MBUX system or the Mercedes me Connect app.

“Our goal with Mercedes pay is to provide a seamless and exceptional customer experience across payment touchpoints within the Mercedes-Benz ecosystem,” said Jana Breitkopf, managing director & CEO of Mercedes Pay USA. “This new feature addresses a major customer pain point, parking, and we’re going to make that experience a lot easier for Mercedes-Benz customers.”
