Chase Lends Hand to Haiti Relief Efforts
GARDEN CITY, N.J. — Chase Auto Finance has pitched in for the Haiti relief efforts, providing a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE for the "100 Trucks for Haiti" campaign that will be used to help dole out food, water and medicine in Port Au Prince as well as other areas of the earthquake-stricken nation.
"Chase and our employees have supported recovery efforts in Haiti since soon after the earthquake struck in January," shared Marc Sheinbaum, chief executive officer for auto finance at Chase. "We're glad to continue to help in this important work."
The truck was donated to William J. Clinton Foundation, which has been heading up the campaign. The cause was initiated by the National Automobile Dealers Association, which saw a need to bring in trucks to make the supply delivery process easier.
Basically, transporting supplies throughout the country had been difficult because there were not enough trucks. Pickups, in particular, can come in handy when distributing supplies in Haiti because of their ability to maneuver through the rough terrain of streets and highways that have been ruined by the disaster.
Continuing on, officials also noted that $2.75 million has been pledged by parent company JPMorgan Chase and its employees for humanitarian relief efforts in the country.
The company's employees each picked one of four relief organizations — American Red Cross, CARE, UNICEF or World Vision — to donate funds, and they combined to raise $1 million. JPMorgan Chase then matched these donations, and also committed $500,000 more to these charitable groups to assist in ongoing efforts.
Furthermore, the firm donated $250,000 more to the American Red Cross and CARE to help out in immediate relief aid efforts.
