Compli Plans Webinar to Discuss Wage-Hour Compliance
PORTLAND, Ore. — Compli, a compliance management software provider, is orchestrating a Webinar about a business element the company believes dealers might be overlooking. The upcoming event will focus on wage-hour compliance.
Compli has scheduled the Webinar for Jan. 27 beginning at noon EST. Executives offered a trio of reasons why dealership general managers and human resources personnel should participate.
First, Compli mentioned that some dealerships might have lost overtime exemptions for certain employees and could become liable for significant amounts of unpaid wages. The company explained the exemptions could have been lost because of downsizing or changing pay plans.
Next, the company reiterated a new federal strategy planned by Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. The department intends to hire 250 new investigators in order to enforce the minimum wage and overtime laws.
Furthermore, Compli contends that filing wage-hour lawsuits have become quite lucrative for attorneys. Executives pointed out that current law provides that if their clients prevail — entitlement to any back wages whatsoever — the attorney is automatically guaranteed payment of all fees. They also stressed that unlike discrimination cases, wage-hour cases are not covered by most dealership insurance policies.
Compli's experts, along with John Donovan, a partner at Fisher & Phillips LLP in Atlanta, will lead the discussion about these topics and more during the Webinar. Compli shared an event agenda that's slated to include:
—The relationship between state and federal wage hour laws.
—What is considered "hours worked" for purposes of calculating overtime.
—Which employees are exempt from overtime and why.
—Which employees are likely to be paid incorrectly.
—Two ways your sales pay plan can get you sued.
—How to implement an effective compliance program to help ensure best practices and preclude costly errors.
Compli also noted that a question and answer period will be conducted during the Webinar.
