PassTime might not have a badge, but the GPS solutions provider was recently involved in a pair of incidents where the company provided crucial assistance to law enforcement.

Through a post on its website and another on social media, PassTime recapped how its devices helped to locate stolen vehicles, with one incident leading to the discovery of even more alleged crimes.

First, the company said one of PassTime’s customers reported a stolen vehicle to local law enforcement in New Haven, Conn. PassTime indicated police lost track of the vehicle, so officers reached out to the GPS provider.

PassTime said it was able to track the vehicle and get in contact with the officer to provide the current location.

“Unbeknownst to the officer, the suspect had already driven two towns over,” the company said in a blog post. “PassTime stayed in constant contact with law enforcement to provide any further details of the tracking location. The vehicle finally stopped moving and the suspect ditched and fled on foot. State patrol arrived and recovered the vehicle.”

An allegedly even more intense situation surfaced in Houston.

PassTime said via LinkedIn that Houston law enforcement reached out for help locating a stolen vehicle. The PassTime team was able to track the vehicle successfully and provide location information to the police.

“Once law enforcement arrived at the vehicle’s location, they uncovered and shut down a ‘chop shop,’ which included several other vehicles that had been reported stolen,” PassTime said.

In its blog post, PassTime summarized its abilities to help finance companies, dealerships and consumers.
