WASHINGTON, D.C. — One of the primary architects of the
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau reportedly is heading for a leading role
within the Senate Banking Committee.

According to Bloomberg, U.S. Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren
will be part of the chamber's banking committee after she's sworn into office
in January.

The online report indicated two Democratic aides briefed on
the matter said Senate leaders intend to assign Warren to the banking committee,
although a final decision on committee assignments won't be made until the new
session of Congress convenes.

The report said the aides asked not to be named because
assignments aren't yet official.

Warren defeated incumbent Republican Scott Brown to become
the first female senator from Massachusetts and heir to the seat held for 47
years by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Bloomberg's report said Warren had been floated as a likely
candidate for the committee seat, which would give her a role in writing
banking legislation including revisions to the Dodd-Frank Act.

The online account pointed out the financial services
industry and Warren have had a "combative" relationship since her calls for the
creation of a consumer protection agency.

Warren ran for Senate after President Barack Obama decided
not to nominate her as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a
post that went to former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray. Warren helped
to create the CFPB as a White House administration adviser.

"President Obama stood up for working families and put in
place strong Wall Street reforms and a consumer agency that is already making a
difference," Warren said during her campaign for the Senate seat. "I'm proud
that the CFPB is fighting to protect people from financial tricks and traps and
helping to level playing field."
