BEAVERTON, Ore. — First Tech Credit Union is offering an additional discount through a federal agency program to give members an APR reduction if they buy certain emission- or fuel-friendly vehicles.

The Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay program covers more than 1,500 used and new vehicles, including hybrid and hydrogen vehicles. First Tech members can receive a 0.25-percent APR reduction if they purchase a SmartWay certified vehicle that has less than 100,000 miles.

Before heading to the dealership, credit union members can prequalify for the 0.25-percent APR discount by applying for a First Tech green auto loan at any one of the company's 17 branches throughout Oregon and Washington.

Officials also mentioned members can also work directly with their local Credit Union Direct Lending dealership or an Autoland representative and request First Tech financing. Members can still obtain the same discount as they would have if they visited a branch.

"We created our green auto program to save our members some ‘green' as a bonus for choosing an environmentally friendly vehicle," explained Deborah Colby, First Tech's vice president of marketing.

"And with the additional tax incentives offered by the federal government, purchasing a green car or hybrid vehicle is a really smart financial decision," Colby added.

Members can check First Tech's rates online at www.firsttechcu.com or visit their local branch for the latest rate information.
