‘Truck Country’ Dominates Top 10 Markets for Highest Monthly Payments
SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Nearly half of the markets
represented among the Top 10 for the highest monthly auto loan payment for a
new model in April are located in the same state, according to Edmunds.com.
And popular vehicles sold in those areas appear to be
pickups.
"It's no secret that April was a good month for full sized
trucks. In fact, the segment had its highest market share of year at 12.2
percent of new-car sales," said Jessica Caldwell, senior director of industry analysis
at Edmunds.com.
"And although they are known as ‘American workhorses,' truck
prices are quite high — transaction prices for full-size trucks topped $40,000
last month," Caldwell continued. "This is directly in line with Edmunds.com
finance data — when we look at the Top 10 DMAs with the highest monthly payment — they are all located in ‘truck country.'
"While one might think that high monthly payments would be
associated with places heavily into luxury, it looks like the truck market is
where people are willingly paying the most," Caldwell went on to say.
The Top 10 markets with the highest monthly payments for new
vehicles last month included:
1. Lubbock, Texas: $701.19
2. Macon, Ga.: $618.42
