TORRANCE, Calif., and TORONTO -

Honda shared details about its latest recall that’s predominantly connected with 2011 Civic models in the U.S. and Canada as well as a handful of 2011 Acura CSX vehicles in Canada.

The automaker explained this week’s decision stems from the need to inspect and possibly replace the fuel pump module inside the gasoline tank. The recall covers 18,056 Civics in the U.S., 3,636 Civics in Canada as well as nine 2011 Acura CSX vehicles in Canada.

Honda indicated that observation during assembly revealed that the roll-over valve inside certain fuel pump modules may have been damaged during production. If a vehicle is involved in a roll-over crash, the OEM thinks a cracked roll-over valve may allow fuel leakage from the gasoline tank into the evaporative emissions canister.

However, the automaker insisted no crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect in either country.

Honda is encouraging all owners of affected vehicles to take their units to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall. The company intends to begin notification in both the U.S. and Canada during the middle of next month.

In the meantime, U.S. owners can go online to learn more details about this recall at www.recalls.honda.com. Or they can call (800) 999-1009 and select option 4. Canadian owners can call (888) 946-6329

“When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers,” the automaker stressed.
