TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -

On the heels of last month’s deadly tornadoes that struck the Southeast and the more recent storm in Joplin, Mo., Chrysler did its part to help by teaming up with the Rock Quarry Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to aid in area schools’ recoveries.

In an effort to raise money to replenish tools and school supplies lost in the storms, on Tuesday Chrysler Jeep Dodge brought out its entire Chrysler brand lineup to the Rock Quarry County Fair in Tuscaloosa for the public to test drive.

For each test drive, Chrysler donated $20, and profits raised went to benefit three Tuscaloosa public elementary and middle schools, Alberta Elementary School, Holt Elementary School and University Place Elementary/Middle School. The amount raised just from Chrysler’s test drives came to $2,160.

"The Rock Quarry Country Fair gives us a wonderful opportunity to raise money for the schools that were completely destroyed by the storms," said Cathy Elliott, Rock Quarry Parent Teach Association president.

"These kids deserve a fully functioning classroom, and this is our chance to come together and help rebuild so much of what was lost,” Elliot added.

Fair attendees were also asked to bring an age-appropriate book for preschoolers through eighth grade that will be donated to help build classroom libraries for the next school year.

The total amount raised for Tuscaloosa schools from the Rock Quarry County Fair was not know by press time on Thursday.
