Manheim, BMW Showcase New Distribution, Processing Center in SC
BMW and Manheim recently rolled out a new company car distribution and processing center on the campus of the BMW Spartanburg assembly plant in South Carolina that will be used to deliver, recondition and redistribute the automaker’s company cars.
Manheim Greer — a more than 20,000-square-foot center — held its grand opening even for employees on Friday after kicking off inaugural sales earlier that week.
“This move represents a groundbreaking advance in the long-standing relationship between BMW of North America, BMW Financial Services and Manheim,” said Manheim president Sandy Schwartz. “We consider BMW an innovator, as they are always willing to explore and test new products and technology.”
Explaining the amenities of the new center, officials said that it can offer washing and detailing services, while also employing Manheim’s AutoGrade InSight electronic condition reporting tool for certified inspectors to examine the vehicles.
Manheim snaps automated photos of the cars and uploads them to OVE.com. The vehicles are then put up for sale through Simulcast or offered online at BMW/Manheim sales locations.
The cars are securely stored at the facility while waiting for transport services to arrive.
Additionally, the BMW Performance Center, which is nearby, conducts any mechanical work that is needed. Also, BMW and Manheim companies work at the facility and are able to assist in running the show.
"This new facility leverages Manheim’s technologies while increasing operational efficiencies for us,” said BMW Manufacturing Co. president Josef Kerscher. “This allows a simpler, faster and better experience for our associates and dealers.”
A similar center was launched a little more than two years ago in New Jersey, not too far from BMW’s North American headquarters in Woodcliff Lake. That facility, also a BMW-Manheim collaboration, remarkets about 3,000 units annually. The companies are aiming for the new South Carolina center to remarketer nearly 6,000 vehicles each year.
“This Manheim and BMW partnership really makes the transaction seamless for both associates and dealers,” Schwartz stated.
