OnStar’s New Navigation Tool Sends Directions from Smartphone to Car
OnStar revealed Monday a new feature of its RemoteLink mobile app.
This enhancement allows a subscriber to search for a destination on his or her smartphone and send the result straight to the vehicle.
Then, the company noted the route can be “accessed audibly through OnStar Turn-by-Turn or via an in-dash navigation system.”
“Our customer focus is simple connectivity and a seamless user experience,” said Steve Schwinke, OnStar director of advanced system design.
“RemoteLink’s navigation enhancement offers our customers another choice in how they get directions, whether they’re in their car, on their computer, or using their compatible smartphone,” he continued.
The program — available for all current OnStar RemoteLink-enabled vehicles — not only allows users to type in a destination, subscribers can also select an address from their phone’s contact list or directly speak the destination using a voice search feature.
Moreover, the company noted that users will also be able to store their last five destinations sent to their vehicle.
Further explaining how the new feature works, the company noted after the destination is selected and sent to a vehicle, the route will be available and activated once the car is started.
“We know that 95 percent of smartphone users have looked for local information using their phone, and 88 percent of them act on the information they find,” said Schwinke. “Whether they need to call or visit a local business, RemoteLink navigation offers a simple and easy solution.”
Lastly, the RemoteLink navigation enhancement will be available in the Android and iPhone marketplace starting today.
Current users of the app will receive an update notification on their Smartphone. New users who download the application will receive the updated version, the company explained.
The mobile app RemoteLink also provides drivers with vehicle information, such as oil level, tire pressure, fuel level and lifetime miles per gallon.
