HANOVER, Md. -

The Federal Trade Commission invited the National Vehicle Leasing Association’s legislative coordinator to participate in the next session of roundtable discussions officials have orchestrated since April.

The event scheduled for Nov. 17 at the FTC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., will include David Blassingame, who also is NVLA’s Texas chapter chair.

Blassingame, senior vice president of Autoflex Leasing in Richardson, Texas, will be part of a panel titled, “Misrepresentations and Other Consumer Protection Issues in Motor Vehicle Leasing.”

The roundtable is the third in a series conducted by the FTC to learn about the auto financing business as the agency assumes a greater role in the regulation of the industry. The November roundtable will focus on vehicle leasing.

NVLA pointed out other industry and consumer advocate group representatives will also participate in the daylong event.

“Having access to a motor vehicle is essential for many consumers to fulfill their daily obligations. It imposes a substantial expense, however, and accordingly most consumers seek to lease or finance the purchase of a new or used car,” FTC officials reiterated when explaining why they are holding these roundtables.

“As the nation’s consumer protection agency, the commission is committed to protecting consumers in connection with these financial transactions,” they added.
