British Car-Buying Site Comes to U.S.
An online British business that purchases vehicles directly from consumers has opened up shop in the U.S.
The car-buying website — www.webuyanycar.com — has set up branch locations along the East Coast in recent months, including sites in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Georgia. Additionally, the company has a head office in Philadelphia.
Here is how the business — which posted profits of 315.1 million GBP last year — is designed to work:
Users interested in selling their car can go onto the site and punch in their car’s VIN, mileage/year/make/model/condition and their contact information.
The company will then email a price offer for the vehicle.
Then, the consumer can schedule an appointment to bring the vehicle to a branch location, where a branch manager will do a sight inspection for verification purposes.
Once the condition is verified to be the same as what the user reported, the consumer is given a check.
"Going to a dealer or advertising privately isn’t for everyone, and just like in the U.K., the U.S. market is open to an alternative way to sell a car, quickly, safely and at a fair price,” a company spokesperson said.
“Initial reports are encouraging, and as the American market buys into our service in greater numbers, we’ll keep investing to offer customers even greater convenience and value,” the spokesperson added.
