New Female-Friendly Auto Site Goes Live
With today’s launch of VroomGirls.com — an automotive site created by and for women — creator Tara Weingarten aims to address the needs of women in the market for a new car.
“The industry is male-driven, yet women buy the lion’s share of new cars in America,” said Weingarten, who also serves as editor in chief. “Nobody with credentials is specifically addressing women who are looking for a new car. Where can she go to get solid information in a format and language that doesn’t bore her?”
The site offers car reviews, features on what’s new in interior fabrics, sound systems, best cars for teens, eco-friendly cars and the best vehicles to haul your pets. The site even offers stories about cars that make you look skinny, the company noted.
Weingarten spent 17 years reviewing cars for Newsweek’s Road Test column before launching the new site. She also noted that sometimes she found herself the only female at the new car launches.
In an effort to offer a site that looks at cars from a female’s point-of-view, VroomGirls “has the look of a fashion magazine and reads like you’re talking to your best friend,” officials noted.
Besides car reviews, the site offers travel features, an advice column, news briefs and driving tips.
Women can even purchase a car on VroomGirls with no-haggle pricing, thanks in part to TrueCar.
The company announced today that it will power the online car buying program for the site.
Using the TrueCar powered online car buying program, VroomGirls users will be able to locate a local price for thousands of vehicle makes and models – discover what others paid for their car – and then potentially buy a unit from one of TrueCar’s Certified Dealers nationwide.
"It’s exciting to be working with TrueCar — and providing another way for women to make an intelligent car purchase," said Weingarten. "More women than ever are in the driver’s seat of the car buying process, and TrueCar supplies them with the unbiased pricing data they need to make good choices."
Bernie Brenner, chief strategy officer at TrueCar, also offered his take on the partnership: "Like TrueCar, VroomGirls is dedicated to helping make the car buying process simple, fair and fun.
"Now, those in-market consumers who visit VroomGirls for information on their next car can expect an entirely new retail experience, including a high level of customer service and a dedication to upfront, no-haggle pricing from our network of certified dealers,” he added.
As for advertisers, Toyota, Lamborghini and Ferrari have already signed on at VroomGirls.
“Increasingly, male-oriented car companies are realizing women have buying power and are interested in experiencing the fun of the sports car,” said Weingarten.“Additionally, even if a woman is not the one actually buying the car, she is influencing more than 80 percent of the car purchases.
"Husbands who are lobbying for a specific car, should have their wives log onto VroomGirls and read about it. We’ll explain it in terms that will not make her eyes glaze over,” she added.
