Hyundai Unveils ‘Zombie Survival Machine’ to Benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation
May the Force be with you. The Star Wars-themed Course of the Force charity relay on Thursday completed its five-day journey to San Diego, with Hyundai in the lead.
The official vehicle of the relay, Hyundai joined Lucasfilm Ltd., Nerdist Industries and Octagon to complete an Olympic-style light saber relay from Santa Monica, Calif., to San Diego, leading up to Comic-Con International, all in an effort to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Hyundai provided 10 Veracruz, Santa Fe and Tucson vehicles for Course of the Force, including two Course of the Force-theme wrapped Hyundai vehicles covered in stars and colorful light sabers that were part of the relay caravan down the coast, the company reported.
With the relay concluded, Hyundai has now unveiled a custom Zombie Survival Machine at Comic-Con.
The Hyundai Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine, designed by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and fabricated by Design Craft, was revealed on Wednesday on the Comic-Con floor as the Hyundai Undead program celebrates the release of the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic.
Hyundai’s Zombie Survival Machine showcases modifications including a front-end custom zombie plow with spikes, armored window coverings, a roof hatch to allow passengers to fend off attacking walkers, a trunk full of electric and pneumatic weaponry, front and back end floodlights, spiked all-terrain/rally type tires, a CB radio system and more.
"Our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is the ultimate car for The Walking Dead fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie invasion," joked Steve Shannon, vice president of marketing for Hyundai Motor America.
“Hyundai is excited to be a part of Course of the Force, helping to raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation,” he added. “We are proud to be a part of the Southern California community helping to celebrate Star Wars and build momentum leading up to Comic-Con International, all while raising money to make children’s wishes come true.”
The Course of the Force relay started on July 7 at the Santa Monica Pier and concluded Thursday at Balboa Theatre in San Diego.
With participants running handing off the official Course of the Force light saber to the next runner every quarter-mile, Star Wars-themed parties capped off each day at stops along the California coast.
One hundred percent of Course of the Force proceeds from runner registration will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation chapters of Greater Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire, Calif., and San Diego.
