CPO Share Beats 3 of Past 4 Quarters
The share of franchised dealers’ used-vehicle sales that the certified pre-owned market commanded in the second quarter was down from the record penetration in Q1, but Q2 CPO share still beat the year-ago figure — not to mention certified sales were at a record pace, yet again.
That’s according to the Used Market Quarterly Report from Edmunds.com.
After an all-time high CPO penetration of 21 percent in the first quarter, Q2 certified share settled slightly lower at 19.9 percent — still higher than three of the last four quarters.
Certified sales, Edmunds said, rocketed to 548,821 units – another record, the firm noted. It was also up 13.6 percent from the first quarter and marked an 18.7 percent year-over-year hike.
The future may be even brighter for certified.
“Manufacturers continue to increase commitment to their respective CPO programs in preparation of increased lease returns,” Edmunds said in its report. “This will help carry the CPO momentum that began in 2012 in to the foreseeable future.”
