NEW YORK and CARMEL, Ind. -

Two separate purchases involving players connected to the repossession, recovery and remarketing-related fields were announced on Thursday.

Starting out with news from the Indianapolis area, ADESA announced that its PAR North America subsidiary bought Fontana, Calif.-based Auto Depot Remarketing.

ADR works with various credit unions, regional banks and finance companies, and with this deal, PAR can provide repossession, skip and title services to these clients of ADR.

PAR plans to retain key members of the ADR management group and start integrating the companies soon.

“ADR is an excellent match for our business model,” said PAR North America president Jerry Kroshus. “With their excellent reputation in the industry, ADR’s acquisition will further strengthen PAR and enhance the company’s West Coast presence.

“This acquisition is a positive step for both our current and future customers.”

SiriusXM Acquires Unit of Agero

In other news, Sirius XM Radio announced it has entered a definitive agreement to buy the connected vehicles services of Agero, Inc.

It would be a $530 million cash deal.

Agero provides vehicle and driver safety and security services. Roadside assistance, consumer affairs and claims management services are among those.

Its vice president of business development, Cort DeHart, is a speaker at this year’s Re3 conference, which is Used Car Week’s second-year event covering the Repossession, Recovery and Remarketing fields.  DeHart is moderating “The Evolution, Revolution and Diversification of the Forwarding Model” panel discussion at Re3 at 2 p.m.

Earlier that day, Agero is hosting a workshop, as well.

DeHart is also a speaker at the inaugural SubPrime Forum, the latest addition to Used Car Week.

SiriusXM, meanwhile, has been involved with sponsorship of previous Auto Remarketing events, including the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference.

More on Deal

As far as the transaction itself, officials noted that this connected vehicle unit of Agero that Sirius is acquiring offers telematics services that provide safety, security and convenience for drivers and end-to-end turnkey solutions for automakers.

The transaction would mean that SiriusXM will be providing “connected vehicle services to more automotive manufacturers — including Acura, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Lexus, Nissan and Toyota — than any other telematics provider,” it said.

“The acquisition of Agero's connected vehicle business is a natural fit for Sirius XM.  As the world's leading provider of in-vehicle subscription services, SiriusXM is uniquely positioned to offer world-class end-to-end telematics services,” said Jim Meyer, chief executive officer of SiriusXM.

“The transaction accelerates SiriusXM's development in architecture supporting connected vehicle services, as well as the ability to provide services over both satellite and cellular networks. Agero's connected vehicle team is known for their experience, innovation and technology, and we look forward to welcoming them to SiriusXM as we work to capture the significant growth opportunities in connected vehicle services.”

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter, but is subject to the expiration or early termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust waiting period and other customary closing conditions.
