Increases in Lease Transfer Activity Greatest Among Green/Hybrid Cars
The increase in activity for green/hybrid category vehicles on Swapalease.com last month was higher than the gains for any other vehicle segment — and it wasn’t even close.
Specifically, the year-over-year change in inventory listings on the site for the green/hybrid segment ended up being an increase of 66.7 percent, the site indicated.
Next up was the sport segment, with a 45-perecent gain. The wagon (up 39 percent), coupe (up 25.4 percent) and compacts (up 11.7 percent) also saw double-digit gains in Swapalease.com activity.
Swapalease noted that automakers have increased the amount of choices in this segment, which has led to greater interest among consumers. Explaining the spike in transfer activity for green/hybrid vehicles, the site pointed to the fact that there are also more attractive lease deals for these cars nowadays.
“Since the recession we’ve seen a steady rise in the number of Green/Hybrid vehicles in the Swapalease.com marketplace,” said Scot Hall, executive vice president of Swapalease.com. “We anticipate this trend to continue in the near term, particularly with the strong emphasis on lease deals for these eco-friendly vehicles.”
Conversely, the greatest decrease was in activity for vans (down 37.5 percent). Second from the bottom were convertibles (down 7.1 percent). Swapalease said decreases are typical for this segment this time of year, given seasonality.
Another interesting point the company made was that trucks were up only 4.8 percent – tied for third from the bottom – even though consumers, overall, are more interested in shopping for these vehicles.
