NEW YORK -

After being ousted from the top spot of most talked about automotive brand online by Chevrolet in August, Ford regained the lead in online discussions this past month.

According to the September Social Buzz Report from  Phoenix Marketing International’s Automotive Practice, the Blue Oval was talked about 867,308 times last month.

Following closely behind was Chevrolet with 780,307 online discussions in September.

Wrapping up the top five brands generating the most online conversations last month were BMW (596,421), Audi (592,421) and Toyota (557,632).

On top of coming in at the No. 4 spot, Audi also experienced the largest increase in online conversations among the top brands, up 34 percent from August.

Phoenix explained this bump was mostly due to “positive buzz” regarding the introduction of Audi’s Quattro Concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Autoshow.

Breaking the conversations down by topic, shoppers were focusing on quality and performance the most when talking about Ford, Nissan, and BMW.

For fuel efficiency, Chevrolet took the top spot with 6.1 percent of brand conversations focusing on this topic.

This is in part due to the company’s recent ads emphasizing Environmental Protections Agency efficiency figures, the report said.

Lastly, Toyota topped the list for conversations about safety.
