The reliability champs: iSeeCars’ Best Used Cars for 2020
iSeeCars says the Toyota 4Runner is a mainstay on its iSeeCars longest-lasting vehicles list, and the search engine company says the 4Runner is the midsize SUV with the best value retention after five years of ownership.
And Toyota overall does well in iSeeCars’ list of best used cars for 2020. The manufacturer placed four vehicles in iSeeCars’ nine vehicle categories, and Lexus placed one vehicle on the list, as well.
iSeeCars analyzed more than 20 million cars, and narrowed down its best used cars across all vehicle types. Honda, Ford, Acura and Tesla also made the list.
The winning vehicles in iSeeCars survey have demonstrated long-term reliability, hold their value the best and achieve a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration average safety rating of at least 4.0 stars out of 5.0.
In discussing the 4Runner, iSeeCars noted that the vehicle built on a truck platform offers a great deal of cargo room with an optional third row of seating for drivers looking for a rugged family hauler.
The Honda Civic won the category of Best Used Passenger Car, and iSeeCars noted that demand for the Civic remains strong even as many automakers have dropped sedans from their lineups.
iSeeCars describes the Civic as one of the longest-lasting vehicles to reach 200,000 miles. The company added that the Civic depreciates much less than the segment average.
The survey also names runners-up, and the compact Toyota Corolla is runner up in the best used passenger car category, joining the Honda Civic as the second small car to make the list. iSeeCars said the Corolla is known for its reliability and longevity and said it is more likely than vehicles in its class to reach 200,000 miles. The Corolla maintains more of its value than its competition, according to iSeeCars.
The Ford Mustang made the list as Best Used Sports Car, with iSeeCars saying the Mustang is one sports car likely to reach 200,000 miles. That is the case even though sports cars typically do not reach that milestone.
In naming the Toyota Sienna as Best Used Minivan, iSeeCars noted it is the only minivan to offer all-wheel drive.
iSeeCars said the Sienna is popular among families seeking a reliable, safe and functional family hauler.
The Sienna tops the minivan segment for five-year value retention, according to iSeeCars.
“The Sienna is among the longest-lasting vehicles to reach 200,000 miles, which means that it will stand the test of time for family hauling and road trips,” iSeeCars said.
In its overall commentary on the study, iSeeCars stated, “There’s a lot to consider when buying a used car.”
The company added, “Researching used cars to understand important factors such as reliability and value retention can help consumers find the right car at the right price.”
