Auto Remarketing is recognizing the 2022 Women in Remarketing honorees in the May issue of the magazine, and will be posting Q&As with each of these outstanding leaders on the website.

Next up is Alyshia Tetrick, who is director of strategic operations at BacklotCars.

Auto Remarketing: What is the top trend you’re watching in remarketing/wholesale automotive this year?

Alyshia Tetrick:The digital race. We will see new players enter and maybe some old players exit. Less emphasis on the chip shortage, continued popularity of EVs, and the economic climate will push these players to innovate more quickly and execute better than one another. It’s exhilarating to be in the thick of it!

AR: How has technology/innovation impacted your specific area of remarketing/wholesale the most?

Tetrick: 2020 changed everything. Dealers needed alternatives to face-to-face transactions so they turned to digital. KAR Global had every intention to go digital, but we had to go all in years ahead of our expected shift. The way we pivoted to pursue our digital transformation and established ourselves as a tech company, instead of an auction house, was invigorating. We were there for dealers in their time of need, but we had been there years before, for those early digital adopters in need, too. The pandemic only opened our eyes to the urgency of our dealers’ needs, and as we continue to reassess and navigate those challenges, we are as committed as ever to our mission: to make wholesale easy.

AR: What piece of career advice would you have for someone new to the industry?

Tetrick: Surround yourself with people who empower you, and do your best to empower others. You spend roughly a third of your waking hours each week with these people so make sure it’s people who want you to succeed and who you want to grow alongside.

AR: What is your proudest moment/accomplishment, career-wise?

Tetrick: Becoming a people manager and impacting the lives of others. I feel most accomplished watching our team evolve, both professionally and personally. They are my extended family and I would do anything to help them accomplish their dreams.
