Auto Remarketing is recognizing the 2023 Women in Remarketing honorees in the April edition of the magazine and will be posting Q&As with each of these outstanding leaders on the website.

Next up is Brittany Lawrence, program director at KAR Global.

What is the top trend you’re watching in remarketing/wholesale automotive this year?

As dealers continue to adopt digital auction platforms in greater numbers, I think we’ll see remarketing companies leverage more AI and machine learning to build more efficient and trustworthy marketplaces. The opportunities to leverage this technology are extensive in our industry, from how we run our operations, to how we build condition reports, to the information we can offer dealers to make data-driven decisions about buying and selling.

What do you enjoy the most about the remarketing business, and what would you change?

I am a naturally curious person, so I love that I will never know everything there is to know about remarketing, and that I will continue to be challenged with interesting problems for as long as I remain in this business.

This industry is complicated, it’s unique, and it has seen some major disruptions in the past few years. We’ll continuously be challenged to transform, and, while transformation is difficult, it’s what energizes me.

What I would change: we need more diversity in leadership. Women and people of color are underrepresented in remarketing, and in the automotive industry in general. Diversity in leadership is a competitive differentiator; companies with diversity in leadership are more apt to build products that meet the needs of diverse customers segments.

What piece of career advice would you have for someone new to the industry?

Be curious in all that you do! If you have the opportunity to do so, go out into the field and see the operation from every angle. This doesn’t just improve your knowledge of the business, it also helps you form relationships and expand your network.

Describe a time you were either a mentor or a mentee and the value you found in the experience.

I am fortunate enough to have had a few mentors in my career. When I switched lanes in our company, moving from technology to operations, my boss and mentor Keith Crerar slowed down and took the time to help me learn a side of our business that was new to me. I am so grateful for the hours he spent patiently answering all of my questions, connecting me with colleagues, giving me feedback, and helping me build confidence; his mentorship was invaluable in progressing my career in remarketing.
