WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — BMW Group has agreed to a six-year deal where it will be an official partner of the United States Olympic Committee and the National Governing Bodies of four different sports.

Under the partnership, the company will serve as the "Official Mobility Partner" of the U.S. as well as USA Bobsled & Skeleton, US Speedskating, USA Swimming and USA Track & Field.

Officials said the partnership — which runs through 2016 — is a multi-million dollar deal.

Aside from financial support that BMW Group brings, the company is offering fundraising opportunities for the USOC and is lending its technical support to the NGBs.

BMW Group's experts, technology base and facilities will be offered for the enhancement of the training and performance of the Olympic and Paralympic teams.

For instance, the BMW Oracle Racing Team leaned on the company's know-how in the areas of light-weight construction and aerodynamics to craft the America's Cup's winning yacht for 2010.

"As a company dedicated to joy, performance and efficiency, BMW Group is a fitting partner for the USOC, whose mission of achieving sustained competitive excellence and inspiring Americans dovetails perfectly with our own values," commented Jack Pitney, vice president of marketing for BMW of North America.

"It is important to us to add substantive value to a partnership that is more than just a financial sponsorship. We are excited to share our resources, which include some of the world's leading engineers and technology experts and an enthusiastic owner and dealer community, with U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes over the next six years," he added.

Pitney also announced that BMW Group will lend a helping hand to cause-related efforts to help raise more funds for the training efforts of athletes vying for both the Olympics and Paralympics.

"BMW is a premier, powerful brand that is recognized for competitive excellence and dynamic performance, just like our U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams," stated Scott Blackmun, USOC chief executive officer.

"Joining together these two performance-driven organizations will provide a tremendous asset to America's top athletes while providing the unique value of investing in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams," he continued. "We thank BMW Group for providing this tremendous funding for our athletes and, through future activation, keeping the Olympic spirit burning bright."

BMW Group is also serving as the Official Mobility Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams in 2012, 2014 and 2016. It is doing the same for the U.S. Pan American and Parapan American teams in 2011 and 2015.

"Sponsors are critical to the success of Team USA," shared Apolo Anton Ohno, U.S. short track speedskater, who was present with Pitney and USOC chief marketing officer Lisa Baird at the announcement of the sponsorship in New York.

"What's truly unique about BMW is their willingness to go beyond financial assistance and make available their engineers and technology experts to work with Team USA athletes and try to enhance their training programs," he added.
