NAAA launches cybersecurity task force
Craig Amelung is less than two weeks into his tenure as National Auto Auction Association president and is already tackling one of the most pressing issues in the overall auto industry: cybersecurity.
NAAA said Tuesday it has launched a Cybersecurity Task Force, created by Amelung, that will be led by Eddie Lafferty, who is the president-elect of the association.
The task force will include representatives from 12 industry organizations and will address cybersecurity trends, handling active attacks/threats and data breaches. It will also identify areas that might be vulnerable to such attacks and train industry stakeholders and employees, while also partnering with other organizations and associations to promote awareness and best practices.
The task force plans to examine the role of artificial intelligence in cyberfraud and cyber-attacks.
It will meet regularly over the next year.
“A key objective in forming this Task Force is to tap into the deep bench of experts and leaders in our industry who have knowledge of cybersecurity trends and threats and to give back to our members and customers by sharing information,” Amelung said in a news release. “NAAA is the perfect vehicle to do that by bringing our industry together to help address something that affects us all.”
