Like the scorecard symbol for birdie, the intersection of golf and automotive has come full circle for Quade Cummins.

The PGA Tour professional, whose parents own Oklahoma’s Cummins Auto Group, grew up in the family dealership business, but also learning golf from his grandfather.

The first All-American in the history of the University of Oklahoma men’s golf program, the former Sooner moves from the Korn Ferry Tour to the PGA Tour this year. And in a way, he also returns to automotive.

Cummins, who hails from Weatherford, Okla., has landed a partnership as the first athlete ambassador of the Dave Cantin Group, an advisory firm for dealer groups and their owners.

“Quade’s background makes him a perfect fit for Dave Cantin Group’s first athlete ambassador,” said Dave Cantin, president and CEO of Dave Cantin Group, in a news release.

“Quade’s journey from his family’s dealership to the PGA Tour reflects the same commitment and vision that we bring to our clients in the automotive industry. His story resonates deeply with us, and we are honored to support him on his journey as a Tour professional.”

Cummins, who has been part of U.S. national teams at the Walker Cup and Palmer Cup, said that, “Being part of the DCG team is an incredible opportunity.”

He added: “The automotive industry has been a big part of my life, and it’s exciting to partner with a company that understands where I came from and shares my values. I’m looking forward to representing DCG on and off the course as I continue my PGA Tour journey.”

The PGA Tour is full of stories and inspiring golfers for which to cheer. Add Cummins to that list, DCG says.

“The entire automotive industry should be rooting for Quade and we’re just happy to help raise awareness of who he is, and how special his story is,” DCG chief business and strategy officer Brian Gordon said. “He is one of us and should feel his whole extended automotive family behind him on every shot.”

Golf, like automotive, is tough work.

But as the motto of Cummins’ home state goes, “Work conquers all.”
