Carvana’s next Megasite will be right in its backyard.
Well, one of its backyards, anyway.
In keeping with its one-a-month addition of combined auction/reconditioning centers, the online used-car retailer announced Tuesday that ADESA Indianapolis will be the site of its newest Megasite.
The site in Plainfield, Ind., is a relative stone’s throw from ADESA’s headquarters in the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel. ADESA, which was acquired by Arizona-based Carvana in 2022, has been based in the Indianapolis area since 1992.
The six Megasites integrate Carvana’s inspection and reconditioning centers into existing ADESA auctions, increasing production capacity for both Carvana’s retail inventory and ADESA’s digital and in-lane wholesale customers.
“The Indianapolis area has served as ADESA’s headquarters for more than 30 years, and we are proud to deepen our operational presence and team in this market by integrating Carvana IRC capabilities with our existing wholesale auction,” ADESA executive vice president of operations Mike Caggiano said in a news release.
“The Megasite integration leverages Carvana and ADESA’s combined infrastructure to improve our offering for local retail and wholesale customers while also creating many new entry level and skilled jobs in the community.”
Carvana said it expects the IRC integration to create some 200 new local jobs, and it has already begun hiring.
Several of the previous Megasite launches have been quickly followed by the addition of Carvana’s same-day delivery service for select customers. While same-day delivery is already available in Indianapolis, the addition of inspection and recon capabilities creates a larger pool of retail inventory to increase delivery efficiency, the company said, as well as strengthening auction operations with on-site recon services.
In addition, the new IRC increases Carvana’s total reconditioning capacity go improve inventory selection for customers nationwide.
Carvana said ADESA Indianapolis’ transition to a Megasite will be enabled by the site’s existing footprint and infrastructure plus its adoption of Carvana’s proprietary CARLI software, designed to support efficiency, scalability and consistency in the IRC network.
