When it comes to possible discounts on MSRP, TrueCar.com said Thursday that the leaders of the pack are still 2010 model-year Big 3 makes and models. 

For the 2010 model-year, the heaviest price-reduction are being offered on Chevrolet models (16 percent discount), followed by Ford (14 percent) and Chrysler (12 percent) brands, TrueCar.com said in its latest TrueTrends Report.

Among individual 2010 models, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 tops the list with a 22-percent discount, with the Ford Ranger in second at 17 percent. The Hyundai Elantra and Jeep Liberty follow, each showing 13-percent discounts, while the Toyota Corolla was fifth at 12 percent.

Looking at the 2011 model-year class, Toyota has the largest price cut (10 percent), with Chevrolet and Honda following at 8 percent each.

BMW is fourth (7 percent) and Subaru is next (5 percent).

With regards to specific models in the 2011 class, the Toyota Camry is receiving the heaviest price reduction (11 percent), followed by the Honda Pilot and Toyota Sienna (8 percent each).

By vehicle category, large trucks have average discounts of 12 percent and they maintain their spot at the top of the list of the 15 segments analyzed by TrueCar.com.

Following behind is the luxury car segment (9 percent), then large cars and midsize cars, each of which are at 8 percent.

At the bottom of the list are subcompact cars (3 percent), with small SUVs (4 percent) and sports car (5 percent) near the bottom, as well.

"The summer sales season has passed but manufacturers are still discounting previous and even new model-year vehicles to help push vehicles off dealership lots," stated Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends and insights at TrueCar.com. "It's important for consumers to research current incentives and vehicle pricing information to maximize their savings when purchasing a new car."

Moving on, TrueCar.com also looked at the 31-day time period between Wednesday and Oct. 15 to forecast which day will be the best to buy a new ride and which day will be the worst. This is based on the projected discount off MSRP.

TrueCar.com predicts that Sept. 30 will be the best day, as the average discount is forecasted at 7.96 percent. Meanwhile, the worst day is thought to be Oct. 4, when the average discount is projected to be 6.18 percent.
