WINDSOR, Ontario -
Chrysler Canada said earlier this week that last month represented its strongest October for retail sales in six years.
Overall sales were up 6 percent at 15,168 units sold. This marked the 11th straight time overall sales have improved. Through 10 months of this year, total sales have hit 175,240 units, a gain of 27 percent year-over-year.
The company noted that this year-to-date total exceeds the 2009 full-year total. Officials attributed the upswing primarily to the consistent strength on the retail side.
For October, in particular, retail sales climbed 19 percent.
“Sales of our all-new fuel-efficient Jeep Grand Cherokee were booming in October with sales up 500 percent over last year to the highest Grand Cherokee sales in 10 years,” stated Chrysler Canada president and chief executive officer Reid Bigland.
“With 14 additional all-new products hitting showrooms over the next 90 days, we are feeling pretty good about the future,” Bigland added.
Sharing some results for individual vehicles, the Dodge Journey had its best-ever month with 2,512 units sold (up 31 percent year-over-year). Meanwhile, the Ram pickup, Dodge Grand Caravan and the Chrysler Town & Country each had their strongest Octobers on record.
There were 3,452 Ram pickup models moved (up 36 percent) and 4,415 Grand Caravans sold (up 22 percent). Chrysler sold 452 Town & Country models (up 51 percent).
“In addition to their records for the month, these three vehicles — the Ram pickup, Dodge Grand Caravan and Dodge Journey — have already shattered their previous full-year sales records,” Chrysler Canada vice president of sales Dave Buckingham pointed out.
“We still have two months left in the year, and they have already clinched their best year ever,” he continued.
