DETROIT -
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and just a week after its initial public offering commenced, General Motors plans to show the nation its gratitude on Thursday through a 60-second TV commercial.
The spot, which does not include a voiceover, starts with “serious and comic images of failure” one after another. Then, the commercial shows recovery-themed images.
The conclusion of the commercial is the following phrase: “We all fall down. Thank you for helping us get back up.”
Late last week, the automaker celebrated its IPO, which it considered to be quite successful. Thanks to the IPO, the U.S. Treasury now owns only about 33 percent of the automaker, versus more than 60 percent, according to officials.
The New York Stock Exchange — one of the stock markets in which GM launched its IPO — said the offering raised roughly $16 billion.
