DETROIT -

The Metro Detroit Buick GMC Dealers Association wrapped up its yearlong Detroit Sweepstakes during the recent North American International Auto Show. In celebration of the conclusion, a Buick dealer awarded the grand prize, a two-year lease, to a Michigan schoolteacher.

The association’s campaign included more than 30 local events at member dealerships. Entries were collected at these events for the grand prize: a two-year lease agreement on a 2011 Buick Regal or 2011 GMC Terrain to be honored at one of the association franchises.

Organizers indicated the winner — Barbara Hargett, a schoolteacher from Pontiac, Mich. — submitted her entry for the sweepstakes through LaFontaine Buick GMC Cadillac while shopping online for a used vehicle. Hargett chose the 2011 Buick Regal Turbo.

Tom Moran, of Art Moran Buick-GMC and president of the dealer group, made the official announcement at the NAIAS on behalf of the Metro Detroit Buick GMC Dealers Association.

“We are thrilled to present Ms. Hargett with a two-year lease on the Buick Regal, an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick and winner of NADA Guides Car of the Year Award,” Moran declared.

The Buick Regal also was selected by Michigan Auto Times as its top pick for “rising through the ranks.”

Publication officials believe the vehicle “is clearly a winning choice among buyers and industry analysts. With its elegant exterior that also conveys muscular strength and a new, more efficient and powerful engine, the Buick Regal continues to be one of the most talked about vehicles at Michigan Buick dealers and dealerships across the country.”

The association is hoping to launch another successful campaign this year.

“The 2011 Sweepstakes begins next week, and we’re anticipating a big draw from participants as Buick and GMC vehicles continue to experience resurgence in popularity due to their advancements in fuel efficiency, design and performance,” Moran highlighted.
