Apparently, one doesn’t have to go all the way to Gotham City to find the Batmobile. Early next month, Batman’s iconic ride will be auctioned off at the fifth annual Auctions America by RM Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale sale.
The sale — which is taking place March 4 through March 6 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Florida — is offering 400 vehicles, including the Batmobile from the Batman Forever movie.
This particular model was used in promoting the movie, which came out in 1995 and starred Val Kilmer as the Caped Crusader.
The car is in running and driving condition and is worth an estimated $200,000 to $275,000. It includes a fiberglass body and a custom tubular chassis.
This model was taken all around the globe through promotions tours. Officials said “a well-known private collector” bought the Batmobile in 2007.
Also among the highlights of the Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale sale is a 1957 Chrysler Imperial Convertible that Howard Hughes bought in 1957. The late film producer drove it “for a short period of time” and then the model went into storage. It was purchased again in 1976.
“This year’s Fort Lauderdale event is shaping up to be one of the best offerings in my 30 years of hosting collector car auctions in Florida,” stated Auctions America president Donnie Gould.
“Over 100 of these high-quality cars are being offered without reserve, and there truly is something for every collector’s taste and budget,” Gould added.
The sale is open from 10 a.m. (EST) to 7 p.m. on March 4; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on March 5; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 6.
A day pass costs $20 and a weekend pass is $50. Children age 12 and under receive free admittance.
