Cadillac Recalls 2009-10 CTS to Fix Suspension Issue
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed General Motors is recalling the Cadillac CTS from the 2009 and 2010 model years.
The recall affecting more than 11,000 units is to rectify a condition in which a wax coating on the rear suspension toe link jam nuts may allow the nuts to loosen.
If a nut sufficiently loosens, NHTSA believes the toe link could separate and the rear wheel would be able to turn inboard or outboard.
As a result, federal officials contend the driver may experience sudden changes with vehicle handling and may not be able to control the unit, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA said these Cadillac owners may hear a metallic clanking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle that may warn of a loosening nut.
NHTSA and GM indicated franchise dealers have been instructed to clean all wax residue from the rear suspension toe link and install two new jam nuts. If necessary, officials said the rear suspension toe link may need to be replaced by Cadillac service departments.
All services are to be completed without charge to the owner, federal and automaker officials noted.
NHTSA further pointed out that GM has not established a notification schedule to alert Cadillac owners about this recall.
However, owners can contact the manufacturer to see if their vehicle is affected by calling (866) 982-2339 or visiting www.GMownercenter.com.
NHTSA also advised owners to contact federal officials if they have any questions by calling (888) 327-4236 or visiting www.safecar.gov.
