Chrysler Recalls More Than 216K Vehicles; Automaker Reveals March Incentives
Chrysler is recalling more than 216,000 vehicles in an international recall to replace a wireless ignition node and key fob that could lead to the engine inadvertently shutting off in certain vehicles.
The recall includes Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan and Dodge Journey AWD vehicles, all of which are from the 2010 model-year.
The majority of the affected units are in the U.S. Of the approximately 216,372 units worldwide that are impacted by this recall, Chrysler noted that 154,338 are in the U.S.
Officials noted that 41,976 units are in Canada; 8,048 are in Mexico; and 12,010 are export vehicles. Chrysler pointed out that the vehicles involved were built between Aug. 3, 2009 and June 17, 2010.
“Harsh roadway conditions or driver interaction with the key fob may cause the key FOB to move to the ACC (accessory) position detent position and shut down engine power,” Chrysler said in a statement provided to Auto Remarketing on Thursday. “Affected vehicles will be serviced with the new WIN/FOBIK design.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted: “Engine shut-off while driving could increase the risk of a crash.”
NHTSA also shared that Chrysler dealers will swap out the WIN modules for free. The recall is expected to begin next month.
