CHARLESTON, S.C. -

As a fellow executive said he “will be sorely missed,” American Auto Auction Group revealed late last week that chief executive officer Steve Simon resigned his position due to health-related issues.

However, the group emphasized Simon will still continue as a member of its board of directors.

AAAG board chairman and former GMAC executive Bill McIver is stepping into the open position of CEO.

“With his signature creative vision and energetic spirit, Steve Simon has provided inspiring leadership and will be sorely missed,” McIver began.

“We fully understand and support his decision and the entire AAAG team hopes he will soon return to full, good health,” he continued. “AAAG will continue to build upon the foundation Steve created by continuing to expand our existing operations and by pursuing an aggressive and strategic acquisition process.”

American Auto Auction Group was launched in January 2010 and now includes 14 operations: Charleston Auto Auction in Moncks Corner, S.C., Mid-South Auction in Jackson, Miss., Texas Lone Star Auto Auction in Carrollton, Texas, Your Auction of Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla., Your Auction of Fort Myers in Fort Myers, Fla., Your Auction of Pasco in Holiday, Fla., as well as Your Mobile Auctions in seven locations in Florida and one in Houston.
