MINNEAPOLIS -

ACA International arrived at a recommendation to modernize the collection trade association’s governance structure and now wants members to review this proposal.

Officials recapped that a year ago then-ACA president Martin Sher convened an ACA governance task force to review the association’s current governance structure and recommend proposals. The task force recently concluded this work and offered its recommendation to the executive committee, which has unanimously approved its recommendation, including proposed amendments to ACA’s bylaws and standard operating procedures, as well as a transition plan.

“We congratulate chair Tom Haag and all members of this important group for their commitment to modernizing our association’s governance,” ACA International declared.

After member feedback is received, ACA International indicated it will conduct a special meeting of its board of directors on Dec. 15 in Dallas.

“In its effort to provide premier advocacy and education services to credit and collection professionals, ACA has operated under a governance structure that has served us extremely well. We thank all of you who have served in any capacity on ACA’s board of directors, executive committee or committees,” the association stated.

“As our industry has dramatically shifted and grown, the way we communicate has changed, and the way associations govern has modernized,” officials continued.

“In reviewing the governance proposal, we urge you to share your comments with your director(s), your unit, your divisions and your fellow members,” ACA officials went on to say. “We hope to have a lively and productive debate over a governance proposal that we believe will guide this association for decades to come.”

Should the board of directors approve the governance proposal, the ACA bylaws and transition plan will be presented to the general membership for further review and approval next year.

“We are very excited about the future direction of this association,” officials insisted.
