10 metros with highest, lowest private-party car prices
The top spot on Instamotor’s list of most expensive metro areas to buy a used car on the private-party market isn't going to surprise you. It’s the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, Calif. market.
But No. 2 on the list might get some second looks.
Average private-party used-car prices in the Oklahoma City metro area are above nine grand ($9,028) and are less than $500 below the No. 1-ranked Bay Area.
That’s more than San Diego ($8,304), New York ($8,169) and Seattle ($8,067), all of which made the top 10.
So why the pricier cars in OKC? Commute times, for one, Instamotor said.
In that neck of the woods, they can average close to half-an-hour, according to this Instamotor blog post.
“While the overall cost of living is low, commute times in Lincoln County (home to Oklahoma City) average 29 minutes. Long commute times can factor into the value of a used car with buyers seeking the perfect balance of affordability and low mileage,” Instamotor explained in its post.
