Buick, Jaguar earn top spots in Pre-Owned Value Awards
Buick ranked as the top mainstream brand and Jaguar won in the premium brand category as future vehicle value forecaster ALG named the winners of the 2021 Pre-Owned Value Awards, or POVAs.
ALG, which is the analytics subsidiary of TrueCar Inc., awarded its 2021 POVAs to vehicles with the lowest forecast depreciation from two to five years of age, during the period of 2020 to 2023.
ALG chief industry analyst Eric Lyman said Buick and Jaguar provide the best of both worlds to consumers. He said that includes luxury and quality along with the value and peace of mind of certified pre-owned program benefits.
“This combination has propelled Buick and Jaguar to the No. 1 brand spots in their respective categories for this year’s Pre-Owned Value Awards,” Lyman said in a news release.
ALG introduced the Micro Utility category for the first time with this year’s awards, and the Jeep Renegade took top honors.
For the awards, ALG bases vehicle segmentation on ALG’s proprietary automotive segmentation. That takes into account information such as vehicle size, transaction price, and cross-shop information.
The awards mark Buick’s first time winning in the overall mainstream brand category. Jaguar wins the premium brand category for the first time, as well.
ALG determines award winners through analysis of used-vehicle performance, brand outlook and product competitiveness. To be eligible for a brand award, a manufacturer must have vehicle entries in at least four different segments. To account for differences across trim levels, model averages are weighted based on percentage share relative to the entire model line.
“About half of consumers trade in their existing vehicle when they’re buying their next car and use that trade-in value toward the purchase of their next car,” Lyman said.
Lyman continued, “As consumers begin their vehicle selection process, ALG’s Pre-Owned Value Awards are a great resource in helping consumers identify the used vehicles that best hold their value and get the most bang for the buck upon resale.”
