CarMax: Consumers Lean Toward Trucks
In its evaluation of the most-searched models on the company’s website, CarMax discovered that consumers appear to be gravitating toward trucks.
During June, three of the top five most popular vehicles — including the Ford F-150, which was the most-searched vehicle on CarMax.com — were trucks.
The Jeep Wrangler took the No. 2 spot and the Chevrolet Tahoe placed fifth.
“As summer temperatures rise, people head outside to enjoy everything from boating, biking and camping, to yard work, home improvement projects and more,” CarMax officials said in a statement.
“Many individuals find themselves searching for a good quality truck that not only fits into their family’s budget, but also allows them to partake in all of their summertime activities,” they added.
Overall, the top 10 on CarMax.com was split evenly between trucks and cars, despite being truck-heavy at the top.
The Ford Mustang was No. 3, the Honda Accord was No. 4 and the Nissan Altima was sixth. Other cars on the list were the Toyota Camry (No. 7) and the Honda Civic (No. 8). Rounding out the top 10 most-searched vehicles were two trucks: the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
In other news from the company, CarMax recently topped the The Top 125 Used-Car Dealer Groups from Auto Remarketing, acheiving the No. 1 spot with 396,181 used retail unit sales last year.
The order of dealer groups was based on 2011 retail used-vehicle sales, and the numbers and rankings were compiled from the Automotive News Data Center. The complete list of The Top 125 Used-Car Dealer Groups can be found in the June 15–30 print issue of Auto Remarketing or through this page.
