ATLANTA -

What vehicles does warmer weather bring to mind? For families, the perfect road trip SUV might be on the wish list, while others might be looking for that perfect sports car to put the top down and head to the beach.

Demand for these units might be ramping up if the latest installment of vehicle scarcity date that is provided monthly to AutoRemarketing.com by AutoTrader.com is any indicator.

The site explained that in May, luxury vehicles were quite prominent throughout the national scarcity lists, with “key” SUV models appearing, as well.

First, the national highlights.

Notching the No. 1 spot for most scarce certified pre-owned vehicle nationally is the Porsche Cayman. The CPO Cayman grabbed this spot in March and held on in April and May, the site reported.

The national late-model and CPO scarcity lists were dominated by luxury vehicles, in fact, with the sporty BMW X5 M (No. 8 for late model) and the Audi TT (No. 5 for CPO) making the list, as well.

The Toyota Land Cruiser (at No. 6) was the one of the only non-luxury CPO vehicles on the national CPO scarcity list. It dropped down two spots from No. 4 in April.

On a designated market area level, SUVs dominated the lists, though slightly less prevalent when compared to April, AutoTrader.com shared.

Highlighting a few specific trends, the CPO Jeep Wrangler proved particularly hard to find this past month.

The CPO Wrangler “held onto its popularity in a few DMAs,” AutoTrader.com said, coming in at No. 10 in Atlanta, at No. 4 in Dallas/Fort Worth (up from No. 9) and No. 5 in San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose (down from No. 1).

Another noteworthy vehicle on the list was the CPO Volkswagen Touareg, which remained scarce in Atlanta and Philadelphia, coming in at No. 5 (down three spots from No. 2 in April) and at No. 7 (same as in April) in those areas, respectively.

And two of Toyota’s SUVs, the Land Cruiser and the Sequoia, popped up in a few of the top 10 scarcity lists.

In addition to coming in at No. 6 on the national scarcity list, the CPO Land Cruiser came in at No. 9 in New York. The CPO Sequoia came in at No. 6 in Washington, D.C. and at No. 5 in Dallas/Fort Worth.
