EXCLUSIVE: Used Pickups Remain Scarce Throughout U.S., Certain Luxury Units Prove Hard to Find
Much like the story told through July’s scarcity data, the AutoTrader.com analysis of last month's supply trends found that once again, full-size trucks continue to remain scarce.
According to August’s installment of vehicle scarcity data that is provided monthly to Auto Remarketing by AutoTrader.com — including the 10 Most Scarce CPO Vehicles and 10 Most Scarce Late-Model Used Vehicles on a national scale and for each of the top 10 Designated Market Areas — several certified pre-owned and late-model trucks showed up on the most-scarce list in several DMAs, with the GMC Sierra 3500 (at No. 7) new to the top 10 list in National CPO Scarcity.
Moreover, it may have been particularly hard for dealers in Boston to stock up on popular pickup models this past month.
“In Boston, the CPO GMC Sierra 2500, CPO GMC Sierra 3500 and CPO Chevy Silverado 2500 were all scarce in August,” AutoTrader officials explained.
The Blue Oval also notched a few spots on the scarcity lists, with the CPO Ford F-350 (No. 1 in Los Angeles), CPO Ford F-250 (No. 1 in Chicago and No. 10 in Philadelphia) and the Used Ford F-450 (No. 6 in Atlanta) making appearances.
Among other scarce pickups across the DMAs were the CPO Ram 2500 (No. 3 in Philadelphia), late-model GMC Sierra 2500 (No. 9 in Chicago, No. 4 in Los Angeles, No. 6 in Dallas – Ft. Worth and No. 9 in Houston), late-model Chevrolet Silverado 3500 (No. 2 in San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose), late-model Chevrolet Silverado 2500 (No. 3 in Los Angeles), late-model Ram 3500 (No. 6 in Philadelphia) and late-model Ram 2500 (No. 8 in Washington, D.C.), to name a few.
As for other DMA level trends, certain CPO Audi models remain difficult to find in some areas of the country, particularly the S4, A3, A5, A6.
In Atlanta, the S4 is No. 2, the A5 is No. 3, the A3 is No. 4 and the A6 is No. 5.
And in Dallas–Ft. Worth, the A3 is No. 2, the S4 is No. 3, the A5 is No. 5 and the A6 is No. 6. The S5 also made the list at No. 7, the site reported.
And another luxury brand may prove hard to find on the lots, as well. In fact, according to AutoTrader.com, three CPO Porsche models are scarce in both Houston and Los Angeles.
In Houston, the Cayman and the Boxster are the two most scare CPO models, and the Cayenne came in at No. 5. And in Los Angeles, the Cayman is No. 6, the Boxster is No. 7 and the Cayenne is No. 8.
Wrapping up their data, AutoTrader officials also highlighted a couple more national trends in scarcity from August.
First, the site reported the BMW M-Series is back on top of the National CPO list.
And the Mazda RX-8 (at No. 4) and Toyota Land Cruiser (at No. 6) are new to the top 10 list in National CPO Scarcity.
