KBB’s Top 10 Models for Shopping Activity Growth in July
Have a slew of “ups” arrived on your lot or messaged your BDC looking for a used Toyota Prius? If they haven’t already, trends spotted by Kelley Blue Book show there is plenty of interest in the hybrid.
Among the top 10 models generating the most shopper activity growth at KBB.com last month, a total of five were the Prius from different model years.
According to the latest Hot Used Car portion of KBB’s Blue Book Market Report — Used Edition, leading the way was the 2011 Prius, which posted a 25.4-percent month-over-month jump in shopping activity.
Coming in at No. 3 was the 2010 Prius, which enjoyed a 21.6 percent month-over-month rise. Not far off the pace were three other Prius models, including:
—2009 Prius: up 17.9 percent
—2007 Prius: up 15.2 percent
—2008 Prius: up 13.5 percent
The remaining vehicles included in the Top 10 list resulted in a clean sweep of the leading shopping activity gainers by Asian OEMs. KBB listed the other top growth generators as follows:
—2007 Hyundai Sonata: up 25.0 percent
—2011 Acura MDX: up 21.0 percent
—2011 Honda CR-V: up 12.0 percent
—2011 Hyundai Sonata: up 8.5 percent
—2011 Toyota Camry: up 8.3 percent
Quite a mix of vehicles constituted the list of models that sustained the greatest month-over-month drop-off in shopping activity. KBB indicated the models mentioned below had decreases ranging from 9 percent to 31 percent, including:
—2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor: down 31.5 percent
—2009 Mazda RX-8: down 29.2 percent
—2009 Nissan GT-R: down 26.5 percent
—2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport: down 25.9 percent
—2007 BMW 6 Series: down 25.5 percent
—2011 Mazda MAZDA6: down 19.9 percent
—2008 BMW M3: down 18.2 percent
—2009 Dodge Challenger: down 14.8 percent
—2010 BMW 3 Series: down 9.9 percent
—2010 Honda Odyssey: down 9.7 percent
When turning attention to shopping activity trends by vehicle segment, it’s not surprising to see that used hybrid cars led the way because of so much interest in the Prius.
In fact, KBB found that the month-over-month spike in growth for hybrids (15.9 percent) was more than the combination of other seven segments that posted increases in July.
The three vehicle segments that generated jumps of more than 1 percent included:
—Compact crossovers: up 4.0 percent
—Midsize crossovers: up 2.1 percent
—Subcompact cars: up 1.1 percent
Meanwhile, KBB noticed high-line vehicle segments sustained softening in shopper activity last month as seven segments had declines between 4 percent and 6 percent, including:
—High performance: down 5.6 percent
—Vans: down 5.4 percent
—Sports cars: down 5.2 percent
—Premium sports cars: down 5.1 percent
—Compact luxury cars: down 4.8 percent
—Premium luxury cars: down 4.5 percent
—Luxury Sport Utilities: down 4.4 percent
