NADA’s Updated Look at Franchised Dealers’ Used Department Sales
Through two months of 2013, the year-to-date used-vehicle sales figure for the average franchised dealer was 1.5 percent stronger than where it was a year ago, according to the most recent NADA Dealership Financial Profile.
The data indicates that the used-car department of a franchised dealer, on average, generated more than $2 million in sales in the opening two months of the year. This compares to $1.97 million in the same period of 2012.
Proportionately, the two-month used department sales figure equates to just under a third of total sales (32.9 percent) for the average franchised shop. Similar to the January comparisons, this proportion is down from a year ago, when used sales commanded 34.6 percent of total sales.
The average used-vehicle retail selling price was $17,433 through two months of 2013, up from $16,935 in the year-ago period.
Retail gross profits were at $2,321, compared to $2,176 in the year-ago period.

In explaining the reports, NADA indicated on its website: "NADA Dealership Financial Profiles present a snapshot in time of the financial condition of the average new-car/new-truck dealer. The latest available report typically covers a time period approximately three months prior."
