Top-Selling Used Models in California, Florida, Ohio & Texas
As just one part of Auto Remarketing’s “Best in Pre-Owned Performance” issue this spring, we shared the top-selling dealers in four specific states – California, Florida, Ohio and Texas – based on 2012 full-year used retail sales data provided by Cross-Sell Reports, a division of Dominion Dealer Solutions.
This time around, we take those same states and look at the hottest selling used models and segments.
California
Beginning with California, the hottest-selling car among dealers during June was the Toyota Camry.
According to Cross-Sell Reports data, there were 2,870 of these units sold by dealers statewide, representing a 3.9-percent market share.
Next on the list was the Honda Civic, with 2,335 used sales and a 3.2-percent share of the pie.
Ranked third was the Nissan Altima. There were 2,181 used unit sales of this car, which earned it a 3-percent share.
The most popular segment of used vehicles in California during June was the midsize car, which commanded 21 percent of the market with 15,436 units sold.
Compact cars were next (11,813 sales, 16.1-percent share).

Ohio
It’s not just the Ohio State Buckeyes that are loved here — the F-150 is quite popular as well, topping the used-car list with 2,336 sales at dealerships and a 1.5-percent share. The Chevrolet C/K pickup was second, with 1,953 sales for a 1.3-percent share.
Like Florida and Cali, midsize cars (28,450 sales, 18.6-percent share) and compact cars (22,693, 14.8-percent share) ruled June.

Texas
Not surprisingly, the top three used models at dealerships in Texas were pickups — the F-Series at No. 1, the C/K pickup at No.2 and the Dodge Ram pickup coming in third.
There were 8,522 F-Series units sold for a 3.6-percent share, with Chevy’s pickup pulling in 5,980 sales and a 2.6-percent share. There were 3,874 used Ram sales, which was good for a 1.7-percent share.
And as expected, the full-size pickup was the top seller in Texas. Within this segment, there were 45,646 sales, representing nearly a fifth (19.5 percent) of the market. Next on the list for Texas was the midsize car (34,582 sales, 14.8-percent share).
